- Fund has been operating since April
Croí Laighean Credit Union have put in place a Covid-19 Fund to provide financial support to charities and local organisations working with the most vulnerable in our community.
The fund was put in place to work with charities and local organisations who are helping individuals and families, young & old, with their immediate needs during the Covid-19 pandemic. Many of these organisations have had to adapt their services, work methods and delivery methods to reach out to those in our community who need their support the most.
Paul Kennedy, CEO of Croí Laighean Credit Union commented: “This is a difficult time for all of us but some people in our community are more vulnerable and need our help now to get through this crisis.”
“The Covid-19 Fund is being co-ordinated in such a way that we can release support quickly. We have reached out to the HSE and other local groups to advise us on what charities and local organisations need financial support immediately. This is a time that Croí Laighean Credit Union can show true solidarity with its community”
To date, funding has been delivered to projects providing support to children and older people, rural isolation, mental health, and community food groups. The areas receiving funding include nursing homes, mental health services, meals on wheels and charities assisting people with limited mobility.
In addition, Croí Laighean Credit Union have launched some community initiatives across their social media channels. These include a Community Hub and Community Talks Podcast, to show our solidarity with local groups and provide some outlets for people to listen and learn to many inspirational stories and learn skills from many of our local suppliers and members.
At the Community Hub over 12 members and businesses from across the common bond have been sharing their expertise and tips on various topics from haircuts to nail care; fun games & art to play with kids; gym workouts & skill challenges; study tips and lots more.
The Community Talks Podcast is a three-part podcast series discussing life in the community, sport, and business with guests from the local community. So far, guests have included former Offaly GAA footballer Paraic Sullivan, Kildare GAA footballer David Slattery and former Kildare LGFA footballer Stacey Cahill.
