Information for Borrowers in Financial Difficulty
At Croí Laighean Credit Union, we understand that every member who borrows from us intends to repay their loans in full. However, a member’s circumstances may change during the term of the loan, and while our loan officers try to mitigate against such changes at the assessment stage, some loans may fall into arrears. When this happens our Credit Control Department is here to help.
At Croí Laighean Credit Union, we will always try to be flexible and work with you to help you through a difficult period. It is extremely important that you make contact with us to discuss your options and to keep us informed. Early intervention with members who fall into arrears is extremely important – if you engage with us at an early stage, there are more options available.
If you find that you are struggling to make repayments, please contact us at the earliest possible stage to advise us of any changes in your circumstances or any temporary difficulties you might be experiencing. You can drop into one of our branches, email membership@clcu.ie or call our member services team on freephone 1800 23 24 25. Our staff receive regular training and are very experienced in helping members in financial difficulty.
Credit Union loans are registered with the Central Credit Register established by the Central Bank of Ireland under the Credit Reporting Act 2013 (as amended). It’s important to know that if you don’t, or can’t, repay your loan per the original loan agreement this will affect your credit rating, and this may limit your ability to access credit in the future with our credit union, and all other financial institutions.
If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please contact MABS, the Irish money advice service. MABS is a free service that has been supporting people with money advice, budgeting, and problem debt for 30 years and you can discuss your problems in confidence online, over the phone, or face to face.
